What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain. It is the inflammation (itis) of the
fascia located at the bottom (plantar) of the foot. The plantar fascia is a thick ligament
which attaches to the bottom of the heel and stretches along the bottom of the foot. When
a person walks, the plantar fascia somewhat stretches and contracts with every step.
Once the plantar fascia is over stretched due to the repetitive stress of daily activities or
certain conditions, it will develop small tears which attach to the heel bone. These small
tears may cause the plantar fascia to become inflamed resulting in heel pain.
