Heel Pain
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons, there are
over 40 million Americans
who have foot problems
. Plantar Fasciitis is the
most common cause of heel pain. It is the inflamma-
tion (itis) of the fascia located at the bottom (plantar)
of the foot. The plantar fascia is a thick ligament
which attaches to the bottom of the heel and
stretches along the bottom of the foot. When a
person walks, the plantar fascia somewhat stretches

and contracts with every step. Once the plantar fascia is over stretched due to the
repetitive stress of daily activities or certain conditions, it will develop small tears which
attach to the heel bone. These small tears may cause the plantar fascia to become
inflamed resulting in heel pain.
